Press Release

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12), Republican Leader of the Appropriations Committee, was appointed by President Trump to serve on the President’s Task Force on Reopening the Economy – a bipartisan task force addressing when and how to reopen the American economy amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Congresswoman Granger said, “The coronavirus pandemic is unlike any threat our nation has faced before. As a former City Council member and Mayor of Fort Worth—and as a former small business owner for 20 years—I know firsthand how small businesses and the millions of hardworking Americans they employ make up the backbone of our economy. Across the country, small businesses are struggling to stay afloat through the economic shutdown and are eager to reopen and see customers come through their doors—and Americans are eager to get back to work. We cannot let the ongoing economic shutdown do more long-term harm to our country than the coronavirus outbreak itself.

“Today, I am honored to be chosen by President Trump to serve on this important Congressional task force focused on the best way to reopen our economy and recover from the economic impacts of the coronavirus. Our country’s recovery from this pandemic will take all of us working together to overcome the threat it poses to our health and the economy.

“This Congressional task force will open up a crucial dialogue between the President, senior Administration officials, and both Republicans and Democrats in Congress on how best to reignite our country’s economy. This task force, coupled with the great work of the President’s ‘Opening Our Country Council,’ which includes leaders from our area like Ross Perot Jr. and Marilyn Hewson, will create a partnership of public and private leaders unlike any we’ve seen before.

“Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, our economy was incredibly strong before the beginning of this crisis. We must work together to make sure it comes back, stronger than ever, and I am excited to be part of the team that is working to make that happen.”
