Granger on Democrats’ Supplemental Legislation

Press Release
WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) issued the following statement after opposing the Democrats' disaster supplemental legislation, H.R.2157, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2019, which passed the House with a 257 to 150 vote.

"While this bill provides disaster aid that is needed in many communities, it does not fully address the immediate requirements at our southern border," said Ranking Member Granger.

"Our country is facing a humanitarian and security crisis. Just last month, Customs and Border Protection encountered more than 109,000 individuals attempting to enter the country illegally – at this rate, apprehensions will top one million in 2019. The agencies on the front lines simply do not have the resources necessary to appropriately address the situation.

"I look forward to working with my colleagues to give the President a bill he will sign that delivers the assistance needed to recover from disasters and addresses the growing crisis at the border."
