Granger on WHO Funding

WASHINGTON – Top House Republican Appropriator Kay Granger (R-TX) issued the following statement today on President Trump’s announcement that he is suspending funds to the World Health Organization (WHO) for 60 days while the Administration conducts a review of their role in the coronavirus outbreak and allegations that they protected China and allowed them to downplay the severity of the situation.
 
“President Trump is right to be concerned about the World Health Organization. As the former Chair of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, I fought tirelessly for increased accountability and transparency at the WHO and other international organizations. It is critical that we ensure any organization that receives American taxpayer dollars is held accountable for their actions. We must take a serious look at the allegations of favoritism and protection given to China by the WHO and its director at the start of the coronavirus pandemic and push for necessary changes. A WHO that is reformed and more transparent should be able to stop diseases like the coronavirus from spreading around the globe, which will ultimately lead to a more safe and secure America.”
