Lewis Statement on the Appropriations Committee Approval of the Fiscal Year 2011 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Appropriations Ranking Republican Jerry Lewis today supported Appropriations legislation to fund Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon-VA) programs for the next fiscal year. The legislation, which contains nearly $76 billion in funding, is in line with last year’s spending levels, as well as the President’s request for these programs.

Ranking Member Lewis gave the following statement on the Appropriations Committee approval of the legislation:

“The men and women of our armed forces and our veterans deserve the very best support and care that the Congress can provide. I am very glad that the MilCon-VA bill has now been approved by the Appropriations Committee, and I urge the Democrat leaders in the House to schedule it for a floor vote as soon as possible. This is especially urgent given that, after nearly six months of delays, the House and Senate have yet to send an emergency troop funding bill to the White House for approval. Our troops and veterans  are worthy of better treatment, and while we continue to wait for the Democrat Majority to approve this critical legislation, the prompt passage of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill will signal our commitment to their well being and respect for their service.”
